Course Description
This is a practical training course providing knowledge of confined spaces & their inherent dangers. The course provides underpinning knowledge to plan, enter, work & exit such areas, including via a vertical shaft. With assessments in safe access & exit of a confined space, use of equipment, tools & escape breathing apparatus
Who Will Benefit
Those involved in, or about to become involved in entering a confined space, including tanks, chambers, pits, pipes, sewers, flues, wells or other similar places, in which by virtue of its enclosed nature, there arises a reasonable foreseeable specified risk
Purpose
To provide practical training in a realistic environment, to work safely entering & exiting confined spaces, using equipment & tools safely & preparing & using escape breathing apparatus
Training Coverage
- Confined Spaces Regulation 1997
- Personal protection & hygiene requirements
- Risk assessing residual hazards
- Types of gaseous atmospheres, portable gas monitoring equipment & its use
- The use of harness tripod/man-riding winch, fall arrest & safety line
- The use of escape breathing apparatus & self evacuation procedures
- Safe entry working & exiting procedures at confined spaces
- Setting up equipment with regard to the safety of operators, other staff & the public
- Hands on experience using equipment effectively & safely
- Immediate procedures to adopt in the event of injury
- How to identify & set up a safe system of work
- Selection of the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment with regard to the P.P.E. Regulations 1992
Qualification
Certificates of Training Achievement & ID Cards from Energy & Utility Skills will be awarded to those trainees who successfully pass the theoretical & practical sessions with also mandatory registration onto the EU Skills Registration database

2 Day Course – 8.30am – 4.30pm both days with a 30 minute break for lunch
